May 27, 2004: I Hate This Door I hate this door. I have hated it since the day, shortly after closing when (in an attempt to clean paint splatters) I discovered that the lites are not even glass. They're some sort of indestructible plastic that some bright soul probably decided was 'new and improved'. I hate the fact that it has four tiny little lites that let no light to speak of into the living room and those lites are so high off the ground that even I, in my towering height, can't see the pizza delivery guy at the door - not even on tiptoes. The bright soul responsible for this "improvement" was almost certainly the one responsible for The Great Paneling Project of 1963, lobbing the french doors into the garage loft, and the terrible Fireplace Mutilation that I am in the process of repairing. The Evil Paneler left his name on the door knocker for posterity and no one has yet had the wherewithal to remove this particular vestige of the horrors that he comitted. I have now lived with this thing for nearly three years. For the first winter the ratty old storm door allowed arctic breezes to flood the living room in the dead of February since all the weatherstripping is completely shot... And I've thanked my lucky stars that I live in a quiet neighborhood on countless occasions when locking up for the night - the lockset has been reworked so many times that a good shove would very likely have the whole thing come crashing in. Well, enough already! The scope creep in the Living Room has enabled me to rationalize the removal and replacement of not only the door knocker (I am seriously considering mounting and framing it as an Ode To Bad Taste), but the whole %$!# door! Woo Hoo!! A new, shiny solid brass lockset has been purchsed in anticipation! Yipee!! |

Blech: Pitted hardware. Flat paint. I sort of painted the interior when my sister and I painted the living room, but got so generally disgusted that I never finished the fussy stuff. Of course you can still see the last remnants of the baby blue accents that did such a lovely job of complementing the pepto pink... Gah! |

| But.... This gets installed tomorrow! Oh, Happy Day!! |
