| And
then we have the sun room. Or, as it's locally referred to: The 'Maplewood Room'. In addition to more pink paint and wallpaper than most people can imagine, the house was carpeted in... you guessed it! Pink!! Immediately after closing, a friend and I removed all traces of carpet from the house. We knew that there were great old wood floors suffocating under that layer of pink, but had no idea that we'd find ancient linoleum in the sun room. This gunk hadn't seen the light of day for at least 40 years - it's yellowed, brittle and hideous. With the idea that the worst I could possibly do would be to gouge the wood beyond repair, I went at one square of linoleum with the only tool at hand - my trusty putty knife - and I quickly discovered that the black tar-type adhesive was so old it had come away from the wood in many places. My visions of a light, bright sunny place to read the Sunday paper have forced me to spend more hours than I care to think about, scraping away, inch by inch. I am now on my third putty knife, but I've reached the halfway mark, there is an end in sight, and the original floor is in remarkably good condition. Once that's done, I can take the pry bar to the *!@$ paneling!
