March 2004: The Sleeping Porch is about to be demolished - at least the interior is - for seven new windows, insulation, replacement of the bead board ceiling, rewiring the last of the original knob & tube, and re-hanging the original french doors. If only the folks responsible for The Great Paneling Project of 1963 had been good enough to throw the old windows into the garage loft the way they did the doors... No such luck though, so I've been forced to suck it up and buy new windows. |

I think the folks that I bought this place from probably had a lot of the same issues that I do with this paneling - as far as I can tell, they're the ones who covered it with pink floral fabric. What were they thinking! With the exception of this one wall, the baseboards and picture rail here are original and will be matched as part of the final step in this room's recovery. |

Paneling comes down easily, and although it makes a huge mess it's so immediately gratifying I always ask myself why I haven't gotten rid of it sooner. In this case, the baseboards and plaster are still in pretty good shape behind it except where my electrician did a number while running lines for the third floor. |
